About Our Organization

Since its inception in 2004, Whitney's Walk for Life has raised over $1.5 million for suicide prevention programs in central Illinois.

MISSION Honoring life by supporting programs for depression awareness and suicide prevention.

OVERVIEW Money from Whitney’s Walk for Life is donated to the Hult Center for Healthy Living which is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit. Hult combats suicide through youth suicide prevention programs.

Signs of Suicide – an award-winning, nationally recognized program designed for middle and high school students. The program teaches students how to identify the symptoms of depression and suicidality in themselves or their friends, and encourages help-seeking through the use of the ACT technique (Acknowledge, Care, and Tell).

Youth Mental Health Matters – provides mental health education and awareness for students. Sessions vary by grade level and include a variety of topics such as anger management, conflict resolution, bullying, suicide prevention, depression, self-esteem, body image, eating disorders, trust building, addiction, coping skills & cyber-bullying. An outreach mental health counselor acts as a “safety net” for students who indicate a need for counseling. This mental health counselor works with school counselors to ensure any students who are struggling get the help they need.

Mental Health Screening – offered free of charge online through the Hult Center for Healthy Living. The online screening can be accessed at under the Mental Health Programs tab.

Other Programs – a portion of the net proceeds benefit other mental health programs in the community through a partnership with Community Foundation of Central Illinois.
